USA DDP - Seller FAQ

1) Why KYC (Know Your Customer) is required for DDP (Duties paid by Sender)

When you choose DDP, we tell U.S. Customs “we stand behind your declaration” and we advance the duties/fees on your behalf. To take your word on Country of Origin (CoO), HS code, and value, we need a basic level of credibility and authorisation:

KYC lets us rely on your info to file correctly and pay the right amounts. This reduces holds, surprises, and disputes.

Don’t want KYC? Use DDU on Select or Express (your buyer pays on arrival).

2) KYC process

What we collect (short checklist):

  • Store identity: brand/legal name, store URL, contact email & phone. (UEN optional)
  • Your products (keep it simple): typical categories + top 1–3 SKUs.
  • Country of Origin (CoO) proof for 1–3 SKUs (required for DDP): any one per SKU:

– Supplier/manufacturer invoice stating origin; or

– Manufacturer/supplier declaration of origin; or

– Clear label photos showing “Made in ___”; or

– Certificate of Origin (if you already have one).

To get your account enabled with DDP, please use your registered email address tied to your Justship e-commerce seller account, and send the the above details to us at business@justship.sg.

3) Estimating your DDP charges

The quick answer

If you know your HS code and Country of Origin (CoO), our booking form (by Aug 25) will estimate the same U.S. import charges across all services. The only differences by service are:

  • Who pays those charges (you on DDP with KYC, or your buyer on DDU), and
  • The handling/disbursement fee we add for DDP only (varies by service; see below).

If you want to estimate it for yourself right now:

Step 1 — Find your HS code

Use the official HTSUS search at https://hts.usitc.gov/ to get the 10‑digit code and the base duty rate for your product. Over the coming weeks, we’ll also build something that can auto-suggest HS codes for your products.

Step 2 — Determine Country of Origin (CoO)

CoO is where it was made or last substantially transformed into a new article with a new name/character/use. Simple assembly or finishing usually doesn’t change origin.

  • Jewelry example: – If you assemble CN‑made components in SG (stringing, basic plating): origin stays China. – If you cast/forge in SG from raw metal, hand‑fabricate and set stones: likely Singapore origin. Match your claim with evidence (invoice, label photo, supplier declaration, etc.).

Step 3 — Calculate U.S. import charges

  • A) Base duty (from HS code + origin).
  • B) Any extra U.S. tariffs currently in force for that origin/product (e.g., reciprocal or product‑specific measures).
  • C) MPF (Merchandise Processing Fee, for air shipments):

– you can ignore MPF for now, we bundle it into our handling fee when you opt for DDP

Step 4 — Add the handling (DDP only)

  • Select: S$10 flat.
  • Standard: S$2.50 flat.
  • Express (FedEx): from S$12.50; variable based on the amount FedEx advances for duties/fees. Details TBC — we’ll publish the exact pass‑through once confirmed. The estimator will always show the current amount.
